How does it work?

  1. 1

Pick the trade and your town

Choose what you need and where. No sign-up, and you leave no details behind.

  2. 2

    See who works there

Every profile says where its information comes from and whether the business has claimed it.

  3. 3

    Check, then call them yourself

We tell you which license the trade requires. You make the call, straight to the business.

Trust you can check

We keep three things apart: a public listing, a profile the business has claimed, and a verified profile. The verified badge only shows up once we've checked the credential that applies and it is still valid.

Before you hire in Puerto Rico

These checks are public and you can do them yourself, today, with any contractor — whether they reached you through here or not.

  1. 1

Confirm they are on the Contractor Registry

Anyone doing home construction has to be listed on DACO's registry. A registered contractor posts a bond that answers to you if the work comes out defective.

  2. 2

Look up complaints and fines in their name

DACO keeps a public search of cases and fines. If there are prior claims against that contractor, they show up there.

  3. 3

    Put the agreement in writing

DACO has guidance on construction, remodeling and home-improvement contracts. If the agreement is not honored, that is also where you file a complaint.

Trades that require a license on the island

For other services there may be no specific occupational license, but depending on the kind of work, registration requirements, permits, insurance or other obligations may apply. Check whichever requirements apply before you hire.
